Plead guilty and pay the fine WSJ tells Anwar.

RIGHT WAY: You can't practise civil disobedience and pretend to be innocent, says daily

KUALA LUMPUR: OPPOSITION leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should plead guilty to taking part in an illegal street protest if he believed the government's reforms were inadequate, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said.
In an opinion piece titled "Malaysian People's Court, Anwar's civil disobedience and the next election", the influential international financial daily said "if Anwar wants to practise civil disobedience, he can't pretend to be innocent at the same time".
"A more straightforward way to convince the public that the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) is an unjust law would be to plead guilty and pay the fine ahead of the election," the publication said in its Review and Outlook Asia column.
Anwar, who is Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and PKR Rembau head Badrul Hisham Shaharin were charged recently with violating a court order by inciting protesters to break the barricades and enter Dataran Merdeka during last month's Bersih 3.0 rally.
They trio were the first to be charged under the PAA, which came into force earlier this year as part of a slew of reforms aimed at greater political freedom.
The WSJ said while Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak deserved credit for his reforms, the opposition also had good reasons to criticise them as inadequate.
"The real question is whether Malaysian society is best served by a faster pace of change or the opposition's confrontational tactics.
"Both sides have to learn to put their faith in the electorate rather than the courts".
The WSJ also said that, with Anwar having twice been exonerated from charges of sodomy, "one might assume this is another politically-motivated prosecution".
"But this case is different. Anwar was practising civil disobedience, and now he is paying the price."

Groups protest in front of Ambiga's house

KUALA LUMPUR: Two groups converged outside Bersih co-chairman Datuk S. Ambiga's house in Bukit Damansara Thursday to voice their protest against the April 28 rally.
Although the Kuala Lumpur Petty Traders Action Council's "pasar malam protest" was called off, another group of 50 youths, wearing white t-shirts with the word Halau 1.0, marched by, shouting slogans.
They were watched by more than a hundred police and City Hall enforcement officers, who were on standby at Ambiga's residence since afternoon. Vehicles were not stopped from passing the area.

Council chairman Datuk Jamal Md Yunus, who was supposed to lead some 60 traders in setting up the stalls at 4pm, said they decided to call it off as they did not want to go against City Hall and the police.
Jamal, who handed over a memorandum to Ambiga, said the council now planned to gather 150,000 people at the Bukit Jalil stadium on June 23 to express its rejection of the Bersih rallies as well as to promote peace.
"We still want Ambiga to be held responsible for our losses and we don't want Bersih to organise anymore rallies," he said.
He also distanced himself from the earlier group, saying that "they were not part of us."
That group - calling itself Gerakan Belia Gagasan 1Malaysia - had marched towards Ambiga's house, shouting "Bersih kotor! (Bersih is dirty) and Halau Ambiga! (Chase away Ambiga)."
They too handed over a memorandum to Ambiga and demanded that she apologised to all Malaysians for the damage due to Bersih rallies.

'Bersih 4' in front of Ambiga's house

Kuala Lumpur: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will not allow the group calling itself "Bersih 4.0" to open a night market in front of electoral reform group Bersih 3.0 co-Chairman Datuk S. Ambiga's house in Bukit Damansara, said Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail.
He said the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 does not allow people to intrude into other people's territory, and therefore the group should not proceed with its plan.
"They (Bersih 4.0 organisers) must ask for our permission, but we will not allow.
People make mistakes and we know they (Bersih 3.0) made mistakes...we should not follow.
If everybody follows (the mistakes) and ignore the law, what will happen to our country?" he told reporters after opening the Impiana KLCC Hotel new wing, here, Monday.
Sunday, 60 petty traders told a news conference that they planned to open up stalls in front Ambiga's house in Bukit Damansara here on Thursday and Friday, with the hope of recouping the losses they suffered during the Bersih 3.0 rally in the city on April 28.
Kuala Lumpur Petty Traders Action Council Chairman, Datuk Jamal Md Yunus, said they would be applying for the needed permits from the authorities to do business there but would still go ahead if denied. - Bernama

Anwar and Azmin to be charged over Bersih rally

PETALING JAYA: PKR leaders Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali are expected to be charged on Tuesday in relation to the Bersih rally on April 28.
The PKR de facto leader and the PKR deputy president are expected to be charged for breaching the court order barring the public from entering Dataran Merdeka that day.
The duo are the first persons to be charged under the new Peaceful Assembly Act.
According to a writ of summons served to Azmin, he is accused of violating Section 188, 109 and 34 of the Penal Code.
Section 188 refers to "disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant", while Section 109 and Section 34 are on abetting and incitement.
The notice to Azmin said he and five others had conspired with R Tangam, G Rajesh Kumar and Farhan Ibrahim @ Alias to breach a court order issued by Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir on April 26.
Azmin is accused of abetting and inciting Tangam, Rajesh Kumar and Farhan to breach the barricade around Dataran Merdeka.
A separate notice lists a charge under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, noting that Azmin participated in a street protest with the intention of violating Zaki Asyraf's court order.
Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair confirmed that both have been asked to appear at Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur at 9am on Tuesday.
Anwar and Azmin were accused of inciting the crowd to breach the barricade after video clips of the two gesturing at each other in front of the historic site emerged.

BERSIH 4.0 cadangan.

Cadangan 1
hari pertama: hanya untuk orang Melayu, dikawal polis
hari kedua: hanya untuk orang China, dikawal polis
hari ketiga: hanya untuk orang India, dikawal polis

Cadangan 2.
hari pertama: Anwar dan PKR sahaja
hari kedua: Lim Kit Siang dan DAP sahaja
hari ketiga: Nik Aziz dan PAS sahaja

Cadangan 3
hari pertama: Anwar dan Hindraf
hari kedua: Ambiga dan Majlis Peguam
hari ketiga: Nik Aziz dan Persatuan Pesara Polis

Cadangan 4

BERSIH 3:Benjy Lim hentam Anwar
