KOH WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Anwar as Drama King

Koh, a former chief minister of Penang, is a gentleman. He handed the state of Penang to Guan Eng in a very civilised manner. He smiled and waved. Anwar is the opposite as far political demeanour is concerned. Koh seldom talks bad about people but when he chided Anwar as Drama King, we should take note.

as inconsistent
'Drama King'

KUALA LUMPUR, Wed:

Gerakan president Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon criticised Pakatan Rakyat head Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as being inconsistent on the issue of defections.

"He has forgotten that he is the one who started this trend with his Sept 16 grand plan," Koh said in response to the collapse of the Perak Government after three PR assemblymen defected.

“After this experience, we must look carefully at the issue of the people’s mandate and the right of choice of an elected representative. What is also important is to look into the people’s concerns about the economy.

“We must concentrate on the economy, not indulge in all this political drama. We all know who the drama king is here (in reference to Anwar).” [Koh chides Anwar as inconsistent 'drama king' New Straits Times, Malaysia ]

BERITADARIGUNUNG:
What a relief for Dr Koh. Losing Penang in April and winning presidency October. A bitter sweet kind of relief. Like taking peria, raw as ulam.

Many like Dr Koh. It is not the man, physical, macho look, muscle, bones and flesh. He is not the most handsome guys around. Lim Ah Lek will win by miles if one talk about look alone. He has that little cruel thing about dignity. He is dignified even on the verge of losing Penang. He maintained his composure and shaked Lim Guan Eng's hand. I suppose that will be the basic make-up of a national leader. A true statesman.

He never show keenness with frontal attack or brutal fight. I would say he is some kind of a tai chee - politician. For any frontal attact, Dr Koh will divert and realign. He played a fair game with other component party leaders. While some poke fun at his leadership about losing Penang, he smiled and cushioned and absorbed. Then dust will fall and vision becomes clearer.

With so many eying for deputy president post, i can only assumed Dr Koh's neutrality. While others may take sides, Dr Koh will exhibit his inner strength, his willingness to work with anyone. Anyone that wins, will be his deputy to take on Gerakan to a greater height with sound relevance to the masses. A tainted image can always be repaired.

I will not go far and start to make comparison between Dr Koh and Abdullah. They are of different mould and breed.

Good Luck Dr Koh.

SHAHRIR: Trial runs for supply system

BANGI: Several trial runs will be carried out to help the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry find the best way to supply essential items at low cost to the public.

Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad, who said this, added that the first study would be in Seberang Prai Utara this month, and two more were planned for an urban and a rural location later on.

The direct distribution mechanism would be implemented nationwide by next year if the tests proved it to be effective, he told reporters after opening the Malaysian Consumer and Family Economics Association’s 12th national conference at Universiti Tenaga Nasional yesterday.

Shahrir said the results from the trial runs would enable the Government to find out the most efficient way to distribute price-controlled essential items and food supplies to the public, especially low-income consumers in the rural areas.

Among subsidised items that would be included in the study were ST15 Super Tempatan 15% broken rice, flour, cooking oil and bread, he said.

Shahrir said a bread company has been asked to help transport the items from the manufacturers to the shops.

“My theory is that the bread-distribution method is the most efficient supply system for both the urban and rural areas,” he added.

“If distribution costs can be reduced, consumers will be able to purchase subsidised goods at controlled prices, and have adequate supply.

“The new system will help address the problems of uneven supply and price fluctuation of such items, especially in the rural areas.”

On fuel prices, Shahrir welcomed a suggestion to implement a fortnightly review.

However, he said, the Government would allow the monthly review of the pump prices to go on first before implementing other measures.

“The monthly review is the first mechanism to keep up with price fluctuations in the oil market,” he said. “If we can resolve technical problems or fine-tune the system, maybe we may use the fortnightly system after that.”

Shahrir was commenting on the call by Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon on Monday for a more frequent fuel price review.

Kemudian dia sendiri kata dia ok sahaja. Apa kejadah Pak Lah nak cakap sebenarnya? Pak Lah ni Pengerusi BN ker Pengerusi Pakatan Rakat?

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said that it was up to Gerakan to take any action against the party’s former deputy secretary-general Lee Kah Choon who accepted directorship of the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and InvestPenang.

“It is for the party to decide. It is up to Penang BN to do what they want. For me, it’s ok as long as there is no clash in policy,” he said in a brief press conference after attending a function in Kuala Lumpur today.

“Perhaps this opens ways for cooperation (between BN and Pakatan Rakyat),” he added.

Abdullah was commenting on Lee’s decision to take up the offer by the Pakatan-led government in Penang to helm the two important investment development agencies of the state government.

Yesterday Gerakan’s acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon, the former Penang CM, said that the party’s central committee would convene this Sunday to discuss Lee’s move.

Lee resigned from all party posts after its humiliating defeat in Penang on the March 8 general election.
