ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Sokongan PKR bersyarat.

PKR support for Wong condtional
by Zedeck Siew

24 Feb 2009

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)'s continued support for Selangor state assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong will depend on the content of any new photographs which may surface.

"It depends on what the pictures are," PKR deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali told The Nut Graph last night, when asked whether the party would continue to back Wong if more private photos of the assemblyperson surfaced.

However, Syed Husin added, "I don't think there are any more."

Wong, a first time elected representative, has been the target of a smear campaign in which intimate photos of herself, purportedly taken by an ex-boyfriend, have been circulated on the internet and through MMS without her consent.

Rumours have been rife that more material, including an intimate video, would also be circulated.

"I have been told there will be a fresh assault, with more photographs and videos released and circulated in order to completely degrade and bury me," Wong said in a 19 Feb press statement.

Wong has tendered her resignation as both assemblyperson and state exco, but was asked by PKR advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to go on leave instead.

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has also openly supported Wong, saying that she was an exemplary exco and a victim of a smear campaign.

However, Khalid is scheduled to meet with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj tomorrow to brief the Selangor ruler and seek his advice over the matter.

There have been widespread calls for Wong, who is currently on leave overseas, to continue serving as an elected representative.

Police are also looking to record a statement from Wong's ex-boyfriend, Helmi Malik, to assist in investigations.

Helmi, who is believed to be out of the country, is a PKR member and the former aide of Member of Parliament (MP) Hee Loy Sian.

Members are vetted

When asked to comment on the fact that both Helmi and Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who accused Anwar of sodomy last year, were PKR members, Syed Husin said the party was "always in the process of vetting its members".

"But there are those who manage to slip through," he said.

PKR believed Saiful was a Barisan Nasional (BN) plant, citing a photo of the young aide with a staff member of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as proof of a political conspiracy to bring Anwar down.

Pakatan Rakyat has also accused the BN of the smear campaign against Wong even though there is no evidence to prove their allegations.

However, Syed Husin was careful not to paint Helmi in the same light as Saiful Bukhari.

"People always assume that he was the one who distributed the photos, but we don't know for sure," Syed Husin said, adding that investigations were still ongoing.

Language issue

Earlier, Syed Husin delivered a speech at a forum at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall to protest the teaching of science and maths in English (known by the Malay acronym, PPSMI).

He replaced Anwar as PKR representative on a panel that included, among others, PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and Gerakan Mansuhkan PPSMI (GMP) chairperson Datuk Hassan Ahmad.

Syed Husin (left) with other members of the panel at the forum

Syed Husin said the idea of improving students' command of English by forcing them to learn technical subjects in the language was ridiculous.

"Our party strongly supports GMP," Syed Husin said, expressing hope that the movement's planned 7 March "mammoth gathering" in front of the Palace would be received well by citizens.

"I am a product of English education. I want to see children excel at English, but this cannot be done at the expense of other languages," Syed Husin said, adding that the support of the Chinese and Indian Malaysian communities would be vital in making the movement a success.

Another panellist, poet Che Shamsuddin Othman, said if the policy to teach Maths and Science in English continued, he feared that the Malays would lose their language and religion

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Iskandar and Datuk eddie Chen

Iskandar was one of the many guys who brush aside Eli's bad luck as anything to do with BN. At least he was less political than the Pakatan Rakyat number one. But why bring Eddie Chen in? I dont know, because businessmen seldom resort to such thing. Never heard.

Photographs and videos for now remain as the most effective of Anwar's political gimmick. Even though Lingam was properly dressed up, I dont think he like to be treated that way, at least it was bad for anyone to come in as guest , taping the host and release it to the whole world for some shrewd political mileage. Lingam too deserves some privacy.... haha.

By the way, has the spy cum videographer cum Yang Berhormat said anything in the House?

Lets see how the game will end.

Retract statement, developers tell exco member
kuala lumpur
20feb 2009

Selangor state executive council member Iskandar Abdul Samad should retract his recent statement claiming that Elizabeth Wong may have been sabotaged by someone who was at the receiving end of her environmental crusade.

Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association patron Datuk Eddie Chen said Iskandar should make the retraction to “safeguard his reputation and good working relationship with developers.”

Iskandar’s statement on Wednesday had claimed the sabotage on Wong could be owing to her no-nonsense approach to environmental and other issues, leading to someone “framing” her by circulating her scandalous pictures.

Iskandar, among other things, said Wong might have stepped on someone’s toes as she played a prominent role in ensuring that the state government issued a blanket ban on hillside development in the state following the Bukit Antarabangsa landslide on Dec 6.

Chen said Iskandar’s statement implicating developers was simplistic and offensive.

“We will never use dirty tactics to get what we want. Rehda is not a political party. We seek to change government policies through technical and professional arguments and by lobbying.

“We may have disagreements with YB Elizabeth, but we are willing to wait until we can convince the Government of safe slope development.

“We have numerous outstanding issues with Government, some 20 to 30 years old but we persevere through well-defined arguments, never through dirty tactics,” said Chen.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: fears 30-minute video may surface

I really pity her.

Once we opt to be a public figure, there is no such thing as private life or privacy. So must so people got confused and they cant differentiate between official and private car. Thats what I gather from issues disturbing the present Selangor MB. Again, kopitiam talks go even further, somebody within PKR is dying to be the next MB, therefore the old man must go. Oh, that cannot be true. ... Lets wait, lets tread on the tight rope, or as Khalid puts it, Lets walk the talk. Yes, thats sweet!

Now back to Eli, she fears 30 minute video and more photographs may surface soon. Very tough and very damaging!

Things may get even worse for Ms Wong who has left Malaysia because of the scandal.

There is a half-hour-long video and more photographs that may surface soon.

And some of the images may have been downloaded from her laptop.

That is what Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders were told, reported the Star newspaper.

The newspaper did not say what the content of the video was except that it was damaging.

Ms Wong herself said this is something she feared and expected.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Oh, its you Hee and Hilmi.

I like the phrase, "oh, its you Brutus". Tun Mahathir said it years ago, as a general warning to caution Brutus of back stabbing endeavor and also as a reminder to all of Brutus existence. Back then, I can almost guess who Tun refer to as Brutus. Brutus is still around; scheming, yelling, mobbing, parading and grandstanding!

Now, "oh, its you hee and hilmi". I put it down because I like the first letter in their names. H. By the way, Hilmi was Hee's aide for 9 months. In the old days, you kill a guy with knife. Nowadays photographs and videos are more effective and the death is real slow with no trace of blood... Oh, how brutal, the modern Brutus.

Petaling Jaya Selatan Hee Loy Sian was a man under siege in parliament today over the Selangor executive councillor Elizabeth Wong's 'nude' pictures incident.

His former aide Hilmi Malik is said to be the person who was Wong's alleged lover and widely believed to have taken the nude pictures of her.

Yesterday, Hee was mobbed by the parliament media the way a rock star would be by his fans.

Visibly shaken by the new found attention, mild mannered Hee had a tough time and had to be rescued by the irrepressible PKR Information chief Tian Chua (PKR-Batu).

Tian Chua launched into a tirade about how the media should leave Wong alone but despite this a few questions were posed to Hee.

Hee said said Hilmi had worked with him for nine months but was no longer in his employement.

He has been working with him for 9 months.

But where did Hilmi go or why did he quit?

"I don't know where he is now," he said, while telling everyone to read the Sin Chew Jit Poh.

Hee had been quoted extensively in the Chinese daily on the subject in Wednesday's edition.

"Let the police do their work," he said as Tian Chua stepped in and rescued Hee.

However, Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak) shed some light on Helmi's links to the PKR.

"Yes he is a member. He joined recently," he said.

Azmin confirmed that Helmi is a member of the party but declined to give anymore details on the subject.

"I really don't know about his private life," he said.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: a thin line by joceline

A thin line crossed for eli Wong

Analysis
Joceline Tan

Fear of more embarrassing pictures from politician Elizabeth Wong’s private life being exposed to the public led the PKR leader to the difficult decision that it was better for her to go.

THERE has been a fantastic wave of sympathy for PKR politician Elizabeth Wong since photographs of her in an intimate situation began circulating.

Images of the tearful politician splashed on the front pages of all the newspapers only intensified empathy for her plight.

Wong, known as “Eli” among her PKR colleagues, had made news for all the right reasons when she won the Bukit Lanjan state seat in the general election.

She was seen as the sort of woman politician who might help to change the face of Malaysian politics.

Unfortunately, Wong, 38, is now making news for all the wrong reasons and her political career is about to come to a premature end.

PKR’s high-level political bureau, chaired by de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, recently met for almost five hours and reached the difficult conclusion that it was best for Wong to resign.

The party has yet to officially accept her resignation as Selangor executive councillor and assemblyman but she has been asked to go on indefinite leave and it is almost as good as over for her.

The meeting saw party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail crying openly as she spoke up for Wong and pleaded on her behalf. Wong had worked for a couple of years as Dr Wan Azizah’s special assistant and she still has a soft spot for the younger woman.

Her colleagues also argued for her, saying that she was the victim, that what happened was a private matter and she should not bow to pressure to resign.

Those who defended her included vice-president R. Sivarasa, treasurer William Leong, information chief Tian Chua and Wanita chief Zuraidah Kamaruddin.

They had a point because the existing pictures although so widespread in the Internet are more embarrassing than incriminating. Besides, there had been no complaints about Wong’s work as a wakil rakyat.

But the party’s top strategist and Machang MP Saifuddin Nasution reminded the meeting that any solution to this potentially damaging issue would also have to take into account the political repercussions for the party and its partners in the Pakatan Rakyat.

With pictures like that floating around, it would be difficult for Wong to give her 100% as a wakil rakyat because the Malaysian electorate comprises people of all kinds – those of liberal mores as well as people who are very conservative and disapproving about things like that.

Party leaders have been informed that there are more pictures as well as a half-hour-long video that could further dent Wong’s reputation and adversely affect the party as well.

Although Wong was unsure whether the culprit had downloaded the other images from her laptop, a number of those at the meeting felt that the political risks and costs of more photographs being circulated were too great for the party to absorb.

Moreover, with the police probe now in progress, it was a matter of time before the culprit, believed to be a former boyfriend, would be identified or even apprehended. After that, more embarrassing allegations may emerge.

There is only a thin line separating one’s public and private life especially in the age of the Internet and particularly if one is holding public office.

PKR leaders felt they could not afford to wait for the political bomb to explode before they acted.

Anwar has also met separately with PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and DAP top guns Lim Guan Eng and Lim Kit Siang to brief them as well as seek their opinions.

Hadi was of the view that Islam did not condone people being humiliated in such a manner.

Guan Eng, initially felt that Wong should not resign, but the political realist in him forced him to change his mind after being told that there might be more damaging material ahead.

PKR leaders are trying to contain the fire and ride on the sympathy.

Asking Wong to go on indefinite leave is a way to buy time because party leaders do not want to face three by-elections at one go.

They want to focus on Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau for now. After that, they will brace themselves for a by-election in Bukit Lanjan.

Wong will probably step down from her state executive councillor post soon but hold on to her state seat until the ripples subside.

In the meantime, they hope to defuse the ticking time bomb caused by the Wong issue.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: what is national threat

I dont know, there are a lot of people keep harping on the whole issue as being personal and private. It is like an intrusion into someone's privacy.

"Behind shut doors, anyone can sleep or bathe the way he or she likes. That's a question of personal preference, not morality." Shutting Up Is Real Morality, Mr Khir Sin Chew Jit Poh

What the guy said was right. But what's not right was the fact that someone was too careless with privacy. Oh, I cant imagine if Elizabeth is the Prime Minister like Margarret Thacher. Just imagine the kind of manipulation the prime minister has to endure ....... That is national issue! National Security issue! Deadly National Threat!

On that point, a kopitiam friends whispers in the lowest tone about juicy photographs and videos kept by foreign intelligents to keep some leaders under their thumbs. That's espionage! Another Matahari job!

NUDITY WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Culprit known to Elizabeth Wong

As we are almost to the end of nudity saga, a report says "the culprit is known to Wong". What does it mean? Therefore whatever been said by others cannot shed any light onto this saga or scandal rather. It is going to be she, Elizabeth Wong or intimately known as Eli, herself that understand the whole thing in out. I suppose she knew it from day one.

Even the accusation by by Anwar on BN sounds shrewdly political, salvaging the last sip of political hot coffee, as cards are tumbling down.

Culprit 'known to Wong'
New Straits Times, Malaysia

Police believe the semi-nude pictures of Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong were posted online by someone she knows.
City police chief Datuk Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman said this meant the pictures were not posted online by anyone wishing to frame her for political reasons.

He also denied police had detained two men in connection with the case.

Sabtu said to date only four reporters and Wong had been called to have their statements recorded while police were still looking for her ex-boyfriend, Hilmi Malek.

"We are only looking for Hilmi as he can shed some light into the case."
Sabtu also said a 10-man investigating team, including forensic experts visited the Malay Mail office in Petaling Jaya at 2.30pm yesterday.

"They were there to ascertain the person who had handed in the CD containing the images."

He said the team viewed the closed-circuit television camera recordings of the premises and seized them.

Police rules out possibility of plot
in M'sian politician's
nude photos scandal

Channelnewsasia

20 February 2009

Malaysia: Malaysian Police have ruled out the possibility of a plot against state assemblyman, Elizabeth Wong.

The Selangor state executive councillor recently quitted her post after nude photographs of her were circulated.

Police say the case was not a set-up to embarrass and ruin the life of Ms Wong.

Speaking at a news conference in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, the capital police chief urged the media not to speculate and sensationalise the whole episode.

The opposition claims the case is politically motivated, with the goal of discrediting Ms Wong and to undermine the opposition Pakatan Rakyat alliance.

Police have interrogated four journalists from local dailies the Sun and Malay Mail, which first exposed the story.

Ms Wong's ex boyfriend Hilmi Malek - the only suspect of the case - is believed to be in Indonesia.

Ms Wong, 37, who is currently overseas, has since offered to resign as state exco as well as assemblyman.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Mohd Sabtu Osman said: "The police have also rejected allegations that someone has set up the recording of the photos. On the contrary, we believe that the photos were taken by someone who knew the complainant.

“What's important is for us to ascertain who recorded the photos, who circulated them and what's the motive behind. We are still investigating."

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Rashitha wrote, not a trap

By Rashitha A. Hamid

KUALA LUMPUR

Saturday February 21, 2009

Police do not believe that the distribution of Elizabeth Wong’s scandalous pictures was meant as a “trap” for the victim.

City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said police instead think that the pictures were taken by someone known to the victim.

He said police investigation was focusing on who took the pictures, who distributed them and their motives.

DCP Muhammad Sabtu also confirmed that they are looking for Wong’s ex-boyfriend, Hilmi Malek, 32, who is believed to be in a neighbouring country.

“He should come forward to help us in the investigations and also to clear his name. It is important to do so,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Attempts to contact Hilmi have proven to be futile and police would seek the help of Interpol.

Wong resigned as Bukit Lanjan assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor after the pictures started circulating in public on Monday. She has since left the country.

Police have identified the gadget used to photograph Wong while she was sleeping and the time and location they were taken.

DCP Muhammad Sabtu also denied reports that two individuals were detained on Thursday night in connection with the case.

He said there had been some confusion. Reporters from a local daily had been called in to have their statements recorded. Eli Wong case not a ‘trap’

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: A man detained

As Elizabeth Wong went off for a vacation to clear up her mind, questions keep surfacing and the most important one is who took those photos and who pass them to reporters. To make the matter worse, people are talking about more photosready to be splashed.

With all the accusation on BN from Anwar's side, focus now is centred towards the boyfriend, the guy himself. Kopitiam's talk in trying to pacify the issue, pose a naive answer. The guy could just misplaced his handset and fell unluckily on shrewd hands. Shrewd people know what to do with spicy photos of that nature, for fun or maybe for a few dollars more.

Just imagine if Elizabeth Wong is a person having access to the most secret documents, some guy could just manipulate her with these photographs for years. I never agree to the notion that this little scandal is private and personal. Who say life is easy and plain sailing .....

I suspect the spicy exposure is not just an accident. So lets follow the next bit with asiaone, singapore since a man has been detained. Nobody say the man is a suspect....

A man was picked up for questioning last night in relation to the scandalous pictures of Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong.

The man, whose identity is not immediately known, was picked up around 8.30pm in the Klang Valley, Malaysia by the Kuala Lumpur Police to assist them in their investigations.

He is believed to be the first person the police detained in relation to the report lodged by Wong at the Damansara police station on Sunday. Another suspect is expected to be picked up soon.

The case which was initially investigated by the Selangor police, was subsequently transferred to the Kuala Lumpur police as the alleged photographs were believed to have been taken at her home in Brickfields.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: Why Anwar accused BN

Lets play games
and relate as much as we can to the current political turmoil. Could it be Rugby, when both sides were at dead lock with scrum? Could it be Bowling when one pin pushes the rest and fall flat at the edge? Could it be Netball when a girl toss the ball high with scientific projectile, hoping it will wobble and squeeze neatly into the basket. Or could it be Golf, when one does not play against any clear opponents but has only him/herself to swing and to putt into a little hole?

While modern Matahari is still lurking doing double sword job, how sure can we be to explain the multiple checkmates in a single frame of political chess.

As Anwar warned media to lay off elizabeth wong scandal [or rather bad luck] and described the circulation of photographs as BN's job, Najib has something to say, while Iskandar a PAS exco look at economical espionage or arm twisting as a possible clue.

Anwar hinted at BN
for Elizabeth bedroom exposure.

On Tuesday, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had described the circulation of Wong's photographs as a by-product of a bigger BN conspiracy to destroy PKR.
Anwar also slammed BN leaders by saying that they had no right to talk about morality and singled out Najib.

Meanwhile Najib put it as,
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Pakatan Rakyat was just pointing fingers at BN without any proof."They have accused BN, but what evidence do they have? I didn't even know about the incident until it surfaced. "If they want to accuse us, do it with proof and evidence. Do not simply accuse us," he said after chairing the cabinet committee on the liberalisation of the services sector inaugural meeting at Parliament yesterday. [BN has nothing to do with Wong's predicament, says Najib New Straits Times ]

The third person,
unexpectedly a PAS guy,
put some sense in his opinion,

State executive council member from Pas, Iskandar Abdul Samad, yesterday dismissed allegations that Barisan Nasional was involved in the circulation of Elizabeth Wong's photographs.
Iskandar, who is Housing, Building Management and Squatters Committee chairman, said this despicable act was not only due to political but also monetary motivation. The Selangor Pas deputy commissioner (III) said the distribution of the photographs may be the work of disgruntled developers who were not satisfied when the state government banned development on class three and four hillslopes. [Selangor Pas: BN not behind despicable act New Straits Times]

I had been guessing, it is something of arm twisting manipulative action, for both political and economical purpose. This is nothing new. Matahari had done it. Anwar had a few secrets himself, best kept in his own chest, on what is political and economical arm twisting all about. He will not tell secrets.

ELIZABETH WONG WITH MALAYSIAKINI: personal, security and political issue

This
is a difficult issue. Anwar has called media to lay off the Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong. This statement from Anwar as reported by Straits Times catch my eyes;

"There are so many murder and other criminal cases that have yet to be resolved. The police have yet to act on Arumugam's report which was made three months ago. The police report (Wong's) was only made yesterday, so what's the rush,"

"This (Wong's case) is a personal matter that involves a boyfriend. Her boyfriend does not come under my work jurisdiction," said Anwar. [Lay off Elizabeth Wong, Anwar tells media
New Straits Times]

Matahari
Matahari was a legend when we talk about spy and espionage. The background was World War 1. Lets read a bit on Matahari;

Mata Hari was at best a novice spy who was likely scapegoated to give the French people a cause to rally around. This dynamic was an early indicator of the rabid love-hate fascination we have with celebrities. Mata Hari was executed for her audacity. She flagrantly carried on open affairs throughout her career with dignitaries such as the French Foreign Minister, the German Secretary of War and Crown Prince Wilhelm II.

Mata Hari became famous by dancing with such daring eroticism that from her debut in 1905, she was in demand across the continent. She also honed her skills and it was only when her looks began to fade in her thirties and young rivals, imitating her style, did she find herself without Europe coiled tightly around her finger.

She got caught in the middle of an elaborate game of military chess where she thought she could outplay the masters and charm her way through. Though it’s still contested, she likely attended a top secret espionage academy in Germany trained by Fraulein Doktor, another legendary female spy.

Evidences in the form of photographs and recordings had been used to manipulate. A private investigator engaged by a wife to follow on her husband, may use the evidence to screw handsome bucks out of the guy. We see such things in movie. And Matahari does not have to a woman, it can be a boyfriend, a guy or an old man but the effect is just the same, a disruption, a vicious manipulation!

To pull strings, to manipulate another country both for political and economical reasons, similar tactics can be used. Even though Anwar mentioned it as just something very private, but the very same intrusion of privacy can be used for manipulation. Just imagine Anwar being a Prime Minister being threatened by lucid photographs in the hand of bad guys. Sovereignty could be at stake! National Security is never a personal matter! Elizabeth Wong resignation is a good and honourable gesture and should be seen in this light.

There is thunder in the sky now, bringing chill to my nerve. It must has been weeks since we last had a good rainfall. The grass is crying yellow and brown. My mood is down as I am imagining what Eli has got to go through.

Aha, how some of us got stuck to TV with korean soaps. These are samples of korean phrases.

I wish I could dial Elizabeth Wong and say " eotteohke jinaeseyo " to her .....Of course, friends will support and enemies will haunt. But she just has to get on with life, and forget the past.

Someone was saying about being discreet. But how the hell are we going to know and stop crazy guys from snapping, while we are sleeping stone dead! Oh... terrible.
