ANWAR WITH MALAYSIAKINI: so what.

Sharing Anwar with malaysiakini is always interesting, because he could have easily been our Prime Minister if MP's can be swayed at will. Malaysian politics are made more colourful with pulses of comments from Ezam on Anwar.

  • from Malaysiakini
  • Ezam shows letter, Anwar says 'so what?'
  • Andrew Ong | Jan 15, 09 2:39pm
  • It wouldn't be an election campaign without Ezam Mohd Noor dishing the 'dirt' on Anwar Ibrahim. In typical Ezam style, the opposition leader's former confidante yesterday revealed a letter allegedly written by Anwar to Dr Mahathir, seeking to make peace.

2. It becomes almost predictable whenever Ezam takes stage. His target has continuously been Anwar, hinging on the fact that he was Anwar's former confidante in the previous decade. I am expecting a more penetrating cut on Anwar as the the election is nearing. The revealation by Ezam is of clock precision, as it ticks.

3. But Terengganu is never Anwar's playing field. I am of the opinion that the more Ezam pokes at Anwar, the more resilient Anwar will be. There will come a time when however damaging Ezam accusation might be, Anwar will just say nothing. Anwar is riding on an invisible charriot, so must so that he doesn't seem to care about things other than his frequently changed due date. The more Ezam pushes, the more damages will be inflicted not on Anwar but on Ezam and BN.

4. It is very wicked of me to suggest that the verdict on sodomy case could be a no event afterall. Even proven guilty, his strong supporters might just yell " so what?". When that happen, nobody cares if Anwar is clean or dirty. He is a man catapulted beyond reality through tears of Baling people......

so what?

HINDRAF WITH MALAYSIAKINI: chasing the shadow of Datuk Ravi Dharan

He was a shadowy figure of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, this Datuk Ravi Dharan. A man behind the scene, and a political banker. Lets share with Malaysiakini, who is Ravi.

When the bushfire of Indian dissatisfaction in the PKR threatened to turn into an inferno, party supremo Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, holidaying in the Middle East, called from Dubai and urged a man he trusted to investigate what was really going on, how big it was and why it was happening.

Shadowy businessman Datuk Ravi Dharan, chairman of the Daya group of companies, has always been in the shadows of the PKR, serving only Anwar before and after the March 8 polls and during the run-up to the abortive Sept 16 plan to topple the Barisan Nasional government via defections.

He was close to Anwar when the latter was the finance minister and like other tycoons in Anwar's circle, he suffered after Anwar was sacked and jailed in 1998.

Ravi, 59, went abroad and soon settled down in Indonesia where he has interests in several areas, including coal mining in Kalimantan.

However, unlike Anwar's other former friend Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan, Ravi remained loyal to the former and was a big supporter — personally and financially — of the opposition leader during the March 8 general election campaign.

Anwar has now become worried that Indian dissatisfaction with his party, centred on the resignation of Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam as the party's Selangor deputy chief, will flare up, and he has sought out Ravi to quell the rebellion.

This will be the political coming out for Ravi who had always remained in the shadows.

It is significant that Anwar did not task any of the more senior party leaders such as deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali, vice-president S. Sivarasa, seen as the nominal Indian head of the party, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, Selangor exco member Dr Xavier Jeyakumar or even PKR Padang Serai MP M. Gobalakrishnan.

"It was to Ravi that Anwar turned too," said a PKR insider, adding that Anwar was worried that a "hidden hand" was manipulating the "rebellion" and splitting the party especially in light of speculation reported in online news website Malaysiakini that PKR rebels together with Hindraf leader P. Uthayakumar and chairman P. Waythamoorthy were in alliance with MIC rebels to oust embattled MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

Manikavasagam's relationship with Sivarasa and Dr Xavier and possibly Khalid, whom he has accused of betraying the people's trust by not fulfilling election promises, is now beyond repair, PKR insiders said.

Under these circumstances Anwar relied on Ravi as a trusted ally, in the same role once played by Nallakaruppan before their dramatic falling out, to help contain or extinguish the Manikavasagam fire.

Ravi attended a meeting of over 100 Indian supporters of Hindraf/Makkal Sakthi yesterday that discussed the problems raised by Manikavasagam and former PKR deputy secretary-general P. Jenapala.

Both Manikavasagam and Jenapala also attended the closed-door meeting.

"Ravi listened carefully, watched their body language and never uttered a single word," said a PKR supporter who attended the meeting.

Later at the press conference Ravi moved in to take charge, admitting there were differences over issues among the PKR leaders. "This is a democratic process, we meet, we discuss, tell our differences and we seek consensus," Ravi told The Malaysian Insider after the meeting.

"We all have one aim — to make Anwar prime minister — and until then we should remain committed and united," said Ravi.

He was worried PKR's political enemies would exploit the differences.

"We should not give them that opportunity," he told the people gathered. "I don't think there is a hidden hand behind the open airing of differences in PKR."

The meeting resolved that Manikavasagam and others would meet Anwar on his return and lay their unhappiness at his feet for a resolution of the differences.

Nevertheless the discontent is too fundamental to be resolved without upsetting the PKR's delicate racial balance.

The animosity between Manikavasagam and the rest of the PKR Indian leadership cannot be ignored.

The others — Sivarasa, Dr Xavier, Khalid and others — control Selangor PKR and are big names in the PKR setup although at the Makkal Sakthi grassroots level they are lightweights compared with Manikavasagam.

While Manikavasagam sees himself as a Makkal Sakthi founder, he accepts Uthayakumar and Waythamoorthy as his real mentors, and he also has the highest regards for Anwar.

It is left to Anwar to see how best to balance the demands of the big names in the PKR who are all for sacking Manikavasagam and satisfying the Makkal Sakthi grassroots who have adopted PKR as their new political home but want a bigger slice of the largesse.

What Ravi recommends to Anwar will play a crucial role in the balancing act. As Hindraf spat worsens, a new Anwar ally emerges Malaysia Today, Malaysia

Meminjam kata-kata orang yahudi " everything is fine in chaos", memberi makna kepada perspektif politik Anwar.

BEING RACIAL WITH MALAYSIAKINI: The dayaks of Sarawak

It wasnt too long ago that some championed on the most suitable word for a particular race. Like the blacks or afro-americans hate to being called nigger. Like some who hate the word hindu or china tongsan or melayu malas. But of course the word pariah has been coined to cut accross races and regions. Pariahs in modern time is no more signifying a specific race. And the word nazis had gone the boundary of Germany to highlight a shrewd racial outlook.

2. Now the dayaks. They have not voiced out loud, but I just guess they would prefer to be known as sarawakians as being more specific as to their nationality. The Sarawakians are quite outward in their looking and are beginning to see themselves in a more geo-political approach. On that point, they have left Anwar and gangs by miles.

3. The Malaysian dayaks and the indonesians have agreed to cooperate in education, culture and humanities to enhance their geo-political outlook. I suppose Anwar really has to forget sarawak on his premiership pursuit, for his way of politics is deemed dangerous in there. To show Sarawakians his victorious political strategy, he should explore deeper and share with the dayaks and the melanaus what has he done while in the government for years. He is good with words but one should scrutinized deeper as to his deeds. Sarawakians do not need an outside person to tell them what is not right about Sarawak or Taib.

4. Just to share in case we had forgotten, Anwar's battle cry used to be famines in Baling during his memorable jump start in politics. Then as the tide was against him deep into the 90's his cry was Nepotisma and Kronisma. I suppose he is going to use the same cries again. There is the man, Anwar Ibrahim from Permatang Pauh or rather cherok tok kun.

5. With his impending court case, Anwar could just be a passing dream immediately forgotten the moment we wake up.

beritadarigunung: Good Luck to the sarawakians.

ANWAR WITH MALAYSIAKINI: quitting and being brutal.

Quittings [quitings?] as reported in Malaysiakini were mostly political. To Zahar Hashim, a better word will be sacked from Umno. The other day Zaid was sacked too, for things he said and did in contrary to the spirit of Umno and Barisan Nasional. These two, for whatever reason you can think of, are bonuses to the opposition. They had helped to throw some negativities into the current government. Manikavasagam will be next.

2. Thats how politics are played these days. But I like to share with readers how leaders were developed in ancient times. Julius Caesar defeated Pompey to rise as the undisputed leader of Rome. But much of Caesar was centred on his successful military campaign and his dictator perpetuo. Caesar never quitted, but he died in the hands of the group led by Brutus. That was a long time ago.

3. Now, Anwar and his era. There is no military campaign to thrive on. Therefore Anwar misses that sweet victory of coming home from the most brutal war after having defeated the most awesome enemy. On that note, how would Anwar rise to stage and gather supporters?.

4. He works on discrediting others and at the same time, not telling his magical strategy to govern this country. Somehow he get by all this while. But when he was cornered on Hudud, as more is voicing their concern on what is Anwar's stand, I guess platform is shaking wild...

5. In ancient times, many died in battles. If they quit they were called traitors and most were killed instantly. Modern times see brutality in a different form, it is no more physical but verbal! Verbal brutalism?

6. A guy I know, had mentioned about quitting smoking for countless times, but he never did. Therefore what one says doesnt have to be the same as what one does. That goes to both Anwar and Manikavasagam.

Anwar Ibrahim’s obsession with Najib the ‘Dictator’ may be good for the nation

by: Azmi Anshar
DEWAN RAKYAT Nov 12, 2008

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is excruciatingly obsessed with Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the pretender Prime Minister-in-waiting keeping antagonistic tabs on the genuine Prime Minister-designate. After guzzling the Umno divisional election nominations to win the party presidency uncontested, Najib is now forced to endure screaming volleys of epithets, the latest that he will foster a dictatorial regime once he takes office.

Now who would want to accuse Najib of such despicable foreboding even before he had a chance to sniff the real powers of Premiership, if not from Anwar, who lashed out at Najib and complained that if he “comes into the picture, everything will be clamped down.” Addressing the media in Parliament yesterday and in his habitually haranguing tone, Anwar went ballistic after he was told that the Finance Minister will roll out the RM7 billion stimulus package announced in the Dewan Rakyat last week.

The stimulus plan, whether it was not approved in Parliament or not tabled, has been made into a source of discomfort for the Opposition leader, compelling him to even lambast mainstream newspapers for covering-up this little known fact to protect Najib. “This is what we mean by arrogance of power…they control everything, dictate terms and monopolise the news and they can get away literally with murder,” he rattled away his disgust at the perceived administration that will come under Najib.

While Anwar ranted that the stimulus package cannot be considered as “approved policy”, Najib duly won approval from the Speaker to move his package after Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia ruled that it was “not an additional budget to Budget 2009 but a supplementary measure” to tackle the global economic meltdown. An early 2009 start for the stimulus package to move on the ground is projected but Anwar insisted that it was not done according to procedures. “If he says it will be disbursed in January, how do you disburse funds that have not been approved by Parliament? So I do not know from where, maybe from his savings,” Anwar deadpanned.

Anwar’s rebuke comes in the stream of critics refusing to cut any slack for Najib now while he earns breaks in little doses is typical political harassment. But Najib as a dictator? Crackpot or tin-pot? That’ll be a scream. The only elected dictator by popular vote, in Umno and in the general election. Of course, once in power in March, Najib can for laughs emulate a malevolent variety of styles from infamous dictators – Castro, Amin, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Pinochet. If he is able to do so in the first place. What about duplicating Kaunda, Piłsudski, Antonescu, Horthy, Torrijos and Atatürk, the Turk who was also democratically elected like Najib? Hugo Chavez has been molested by the Western media as a raving mad dictator. Perhaps his is a more personable character that Najib should imitate?

Maybe Anwar confused Najib for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who during his 22 years in the PM’s office had brooked his fair share of unflattering epithets, chief among them “dictator”, and chief among his detractors was Anwar. After his sacking from Government and during his correction years, Anwar invested time, effort, money and legal fees to unleash one railing rhetoric after another against Dr Mahathir that in some measure, succeeded in blackening the ex-PM’s image but his reputation, especially in Japan and African and Middle East nations remain sterling.

A dictator in the real sense Dr Mahathir was not, at least not in the realm of the abovementioned gallery of villainy, but a benevolent autocrat he certainly was, marshalling and goading the Malaysian masses into great self-confidence and self-pride to take on the world while whipping everyone at home – the rogues, the whiners, the desperados, the beggars, the backstabbers, the recalcitrants, and the ingratiaters – into fighting shape. Without Dr Mahathir’s prying, Malaysian politics would have degenerated into back-alley catfights of political tribalism dominated by ego-driven overlords and self-styled warlords. He still did not full succeed. If because of these aspects that deemed Dr Mahathir as a dictator, he’d probably take it with a wholesome chuckle.

It would seem that the Opposition Leader and MP for Permatang Pauh love playing the hyperbole game, perhaps a one-upmanship competition with Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) who has long perfected the hysterics of such phraseology to such sneering sound bytes. Remember Kit’s extravagant overstatement, “richest unemployed man in the country”?

Not the first time that Najib had to suffer accursed accusations that focal-pointed him under the scorching light of perceived scandals. Now he has to deflect another of Anwar’s fulminating fusillade, only because he refused to give the man the time and day to butt into his laying out of the stimulus package in the House. Is that any way to treat the future leader of Malaysia by calling him names? Of course. It is the Anwar way.

However, lest someone accuses Anwar of disparaging Najib mindlessly, there is method in his madness. The fulgent Anwar, his star bobbing under the rushing air of his blowhard ways, has made it his mission to destabilise a resurgent BN under the soon-to-be Najib administration. Anwar wants Najib’s rule to be entangled in political crises and acrid limbo. That’s the idea in the concerted attacks against Najib because a resurgent BN is very bad news to Anwar’s ambitions to make a dash for a quick power grab.

Anwar’s obsession with demonising Najib is urgent. For starters, it has dawned on some enlightened ones within the Opposition that Anwar can’t wrest the Federal Government in a legitimate battle in the polls. Even the DAP is queasy with Anwar’s insistence that he can form the next Federal Government early next month on the spine of 30-odd BN defectors, starting with the two SAPP crossovers.

If critics had accused the BN of being in denial after the demoralising March general election losses, that BN lost many seats due to voters’ abandonment of BN policies, then the same critics should also tell off Pakatan Rakyat that their haloed political tsunami was not won on the backs of some seminal Opposition manifesto or clever politicking, as Kit loves to parrot, but the disillusionment of legions of Umno members and pro-Umno voters who renounced their party leadership, jumped off the cliff like the mythical lemmings and loathingly gave their votes to the likes of the PKR, DAP and Pas, or whichever party was conveniently available at the poll stations.

This may sound condescending to the Opposition but it could have easily been Pakatan Rempit, no disrespect to these roguish road warriors, and they too would have won the five states (six if you count the parliament seats in Kuala Lumpur) as the Opposition gladly milked the dissatisfaction, resentment and hatred of the Establishment in that moment of balloting anarchy.

However, these lemmings did not swim themselves to death hurtling down the cliff. They were merely in purgatory and could as well throw up in embarrassment if they were labelled as staunch Opposition believers. Reincarnated, the lemmings are now scaling back the cliff and returning to the warm, protective pouch of their party of choice, all because of the willingness of the Establishment that sparked the mass surrenders to agree to a peaceful power transition that hoists Najib up to the highest orbit of the political food chain.

But let’s backtrack to Anwar’s dictatorial doozie: there could be some traction here. It doesn’t seem that bad an idea that Najib assumes a tad of dictatorship in the realm of Dr Mahathir’s autocratic style. Malaysians, whether they like to admit it or not, need this kind of firm father figure discipline, seeing how badly behaved most of us are. We get wrecked into 6,000-odd fatal accidents annually; we refuse to follow traffic rules or switch our cell phones in theatres, or behave decently in Parliament, what with vicious and vulgar name-calling, hoots and jeers being the order of some days.

Bung giving and taking to win votes, favours and clemency is a burgeoning black market business while crime rates, gang violence and disappearing children are getting worrisome all the time. Yes, any dictator, Najib included, who can beat, lash, castigate, chastise, flog, thrash and punish abhorrent criminality appropriated by malfeasant Malaysians is most welcomed. The day Malaysians are not caught committing such transgressions is the day petrol sells for RM1 a litre, public toilets are voluntarily flushed and litter is actually dumped inside the relevant bins.

Govt Backbencher Hits Out At Anwar

A government backbencher Tuesday hit out at Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PKR-Permatang Pauh) for demanding the government to table a new 2009 Budget.

Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (BN-Batu Pahat) said the 2009 Budget needed to be debated for implementation of the plans, besides already being a people-friendly budget that outlined several strategies to ensure their well-being.

"I am surprised that the (honourable member from) Permatang Pauh said the budget should be rejected because the income and deficit projections had changed, but he himself had debated on it for almost six hours.

"What is important is that the 2009 Budget is an estimate and based on planning, could be revised and should be implemented," he said when debating on the 2009 Supply Bill in Parliament, here Tuesday.

Dr Mohd Puad also refuted Anwar's claim that Barisan Nasional MPs were merely government lackeys or blind followers for debating an obsolete budget.

"BN MPs cannot be described as such, as we have to debate on the budget and it can be revised," he said.

He was also disappointed that during the debate yesterday, Anwar had criticised the country's economic policies and politics which he had also been part of when he was in government before.

"I find it difficult to agree with Permatang Pauh as what he says now also happened when he was finance minister. What is important is that we should be finding ways to solve the problems."

The debate got heated up when he raised the issue of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters creating a commotion at the recent Hari Raya open house hosted by the prime minister and Muslim cabinet ministers.

"Hindraf is making ridiculous demands as evident from their behaviour at the Raya open house. They should have come with decorum. Imagine if I had disturbed the Padang Serai's (N. Gobalakrishnan's) Deepavali open house. Surely they would be angry. Likewise, the Malays were angry as the Raya open house had to do with their religious celebration," said Dr Mohd Puad.

This prompted Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) to stand up and state that the Hindraf supporters had gone to the open house with the good intention of delivering a Hari Raya card and message to the prime minister.

"They didn't go there to be suppressed or to hurt the feelings of others. If they had gone there with a good intention, why should they be harshly treated" he added.

To this, Dr Mohd Puad said: "We've heard from the prime minister's statement that only one (Hindraf supporter) had wished him 'Selamat Hari Raya' but the rest just barged in. They should have used a more suitable occasion to convey their request."

US concerned over Malaysian use of internal security act

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The government of US President George W. Bush views with "grave concern" Malaysia's use of its tough Internal Security Act (ISA) as a possible way to stifle dissent, the State Department said Thursday.

Washington worries about "the possibility" that the act, which allows indefinite detention without trial, "might be used again to detain opposition political figures," said spokesman Sean McCormack.

"The statement by a government figure that a leading member of the opposition had become 'a threat to the economy and national security' is extremely troubling," said McCormack, referring to warnings by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who on Thursday called for a no-confidence vote against Abdullah.

Last Friday Malaysian police arrested Teresa Kok of the opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP), Malaysia's top blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, and a reporter with a Chinese-language newspaper under the security law, citing security concerns.

"The United States firmly believes that national security laws, such as the ISA, must not be used to curtail or inhibit the exercise of universal democratic liberties or the peaceful expression of political views," McCormack said.

"The detention of opposition leaders under the ISA would be viewed by the United States and the international community as a fundamental infringement of democratic rights and values," he added.

Najib has no choice but to vie for No. 1 job

By Ahirudin Attan

YESTERDAY, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim demanded a parliamentary sitting next Tuesday, to debate a motion of no-confidence in the government.

Perhaps he is finally ready to produce the defecting MPs that would give him a parliamentary majority and the keys to power.

But his credibility, after long promising to take charge by this week, has been weakened.

Instead, many observers are now starting to think that the man to succeed Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi might just be the man the opposition leader has been trying to discredit since last year: Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak.

A deal struck between Datuk Seri Abdullah and his deputy, in which Datuk Seri Najib would be made the PM when Mr Abdullah quits in mid-2010, had suggested Mr Najib was content to wait.

Last week, however, he publicly said he would leave it to the delegates of his Umno party, at its December general assembly, to decide on the power transition. Umno dominates Malaysia's ruling coalition and the party president automatically becomes the prime minister.

Mr Najib's statement, therefore, was seen as a sign that he is willing and ready to take the No. 1 post.

His statement came on the heels of Umno vice-president Muhyiddin Yassin's remark that 2010 was too long to wait for the PM to pass the baton.

And just days before Mr Muhyiddin's comment, there was a meeting involving him, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, ex-premier Mahathir Mohamad and other party veterans, which discussed the formation of a "Dream Team" to challenge Mr Abdullah in December.

After Mr Najib's remarks, Mr Abdullah quickly met him, and it was reported that the two leaders reached an understanding, with Mr Abdullah even conceding that the power transition could happen sooner.

Mr Abdullah has handed his Finance portfolio to Mr Najib, seen as a move to convince the Umno grassroots that steps are being taken to prepare Mr Najib for the premiership.

Is that enough to buy Mr Abdullah more time at the helm?

Unlikely. At the rate things are going in Umno, Mr Najib will have very little choice but to take on Mr Abdullah at the convention – or persuade him to quit a lot sooner than 2010.

Mr Muhyiddin, who has been identified as Tengku Razaleigh's running mate in the so-called "Dream Team", has told people that he won't turn back.

my paper learnt that Mr Muhyiddin had informed Mr Najib in person that he would be contesting the No. 2 spot come December, which means it would be a Najib vs Muhyiddin contest.

It is a contest that Mr Najib is not assured of winning, given Mr Muhyiddin?s support in Johor,
Negri Sembilan, Kelantan, and several northern states.

His only way out, then, would be to climb the ladder and take on Mr Abdullah.

ABDULLAH: Anwar's letter not about power transfer

KEPALA BATAS, TUE:

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said a letter he received from Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday was about general matters on the current situation of the country and not concerning a power transfer.

“There has been no letter sent to me regarding a power transfer. He (Anwar) sent a letter about general matters on the current situation in the country,” he told a press conference after presenting scholarships and Aidilfitri aid to the needy at Dewan Seri Endon Yayasan Budi Penyayang here.

In KUALA LUMPUR, Anwar today had claimed that he had sent a letter to the Prime Minister requesting a meeting to discuss a peaceful transfer of power to the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

He claimed that he had enough Members of Parliament to form the new government. - nst

Black/White: Mahathir, Abdullah and Anwar.

BERITADARIGUNUNG

........ and of course, photos here are in black and white. But life is always colourful especially those whose life has been the centrespread in media. Now lets look at their existence and impact on Malaysians.

One has been there for a long 22 years, bringing Malaysia and Malaysian to where they are now. He is known to be harsh and tough. But Malaysia is never safer having him. He fought tough battles. He set manageable goals and pay attention to explain important actions in the simplest langguage.

[Badawi, Abdullah Ahmad][Ibrahim, Anwar]
The other one had just finished a term. He is the weaker one. Turmoil occurred every now and then. Lots of effort has been laid to put out fire. He is reactive in nature.

The third one is special. He was never up there. He always think he can do wonders even though records showed something else. But he is good with words.

Splashing colours onto their photos, which one will turn out with more colours? and which one will remain as negative? .

It will be dangerous if the photo is infact a negative, and the person himself is very much negative in attitudes and worldview.

Dilemma of Indians and Keadilan Party: A SIMPLE OBSERVATION

BERITADARIGUNUNG

death 1

In 2000, then Kedah state assemblyman for Lunas, Dr Joe Fernandez while talking on his mobile phone was shot dead in Bukit Mertajam by unidentified men. Dr. Joe Fernandez, 54, who was shot three times by two men at the Jalan Maju Jalan Harapan junction in Bukit Mertajam on a motorcycle while driving home from his clinic in Kulim on Nov. 5, 2000. He was shot at his abdomen. He died at the Bukit Mertajam Specialist Centre at 3 pm.

According to the police, the politician, who was also Kedah Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) deputy chief, was caught in a traffic jam at a junction in Bukit Mertajam about 2.30 pm. Two men on a motorbike stopped beside his Nissan Terrano and one pulled out a gun. At that time, the doctor was on his mobile phone with an employee at his clinic nearby.

After the shooting, the gunman walked back to his waiting accomplice and drove off, leaving bystanders dazed. Dr Fernandez's employee rushed to the scene on hearing the gunshots over the phone. He drove the doctor to the specialist centre. But it was too late and Dr Fernandez died half an hour later.

"This is certainly not a robbery,'' said Penang deputy chief police officer Datuk Abu Kassim Md Noor. Police also ruled out the possibility of the involvement of hired killers as there had been no reports of death threats to Dr Fernandez. The police have yet to confirm the motive for the killing and described it as cold-blooded murder.
Datuk Abu Kassim confirmed that the police had a description of the suspects and were investigating.

The politician leaves behind his wife, Dr Louis Mary Rose, and a daughter. After joining the MIC in 1975, he was elected as Kedah MIC Youth chief four years later and retained the position until 1990. He won the Lunas state assembly seat in 1995 and defended it successfully against three challengers in 1999 general election with 9760 votes against M Kathiravelo (DAP) 5060 and Ibrahim H Md Rashdi (Bebas) 2168.

Coincidentally, the late Dr Joe was replaced by none other than Saifuddin Nasution of Keadilan. To most observers, strong linkage between Keadilan and Indian community has never been so strong. We shall not probe deeper for fear of being prejudiced.

In the Lunas by election, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail of the Keadilan party took the Lunas seat by a wafer-thin majority of 530 votes beating an MIC candidate. However There were accusations of racism when the Keadilan party refused to field an ethnic Indian candidate and selected a Malay.

death 2

S. KrishnasamyTenggaroh Assemblyman was assassinated on January 12, 2008 when a gunman shot him dead at 2.30pm just as Krishnasamy arrived at the party headquarters in Johor for a committee meeting. It is believed that the shot hit below his left eyebrow. The bullet went through to the back of his head. He had received death threats weeks before he was murdered.

Krishnasamy, 61, who was also the Johor MIC deputy chairman, was shot dead in the lift of the Johor MIC headquarters. He was found slumped in a pool of blood in the lift at about 2.10pm by Johor MIC Puteri chief R. Vithiya Mohan.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Krishnasamy had told him about the threats before he left for India two weeks earlier.

“I just advised him to take care. That was the most I could say,” he said, adding that such threats were not unusual in politics. However, he could not confirm if the threats were linked to politics or business.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has expressed shock over the murder of Tenggaroh State Assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy in Johor Baharu, and described it as a cruel and despicable act.

Eight months later, September 2008, A 38-year-old businessman was detained in connection with the murder, Johor CID chief SAC II Amer Awal said . The 38-year-old businessman, who owns a restaurant business in the city, was picked up at about 9.15pm late Thursday. His arrest comes within days after the 36-year-old son of a senior MIC politician was picked up in connection with the murder. The arrest was made by a team from Bukit Aman.

It is learnt that investigations so far point to “politics” as the likely motive behind the killing. Dozens have been picked up in connection with the case, but all have since been released.

Murukasvary (MIC) later won the Tenggaroh seat in the general election PR12 after securing 11789 against PAS candidate Shahar Abdullah who just managed 3556 votes.

Hindraf

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said "I support HINDRAF's right to peaceful demonstration and therefore reiterate my appeal to the Royal Malaysian Police to approve a permit for their rally to take place on 25 November 2007." click here.

Anwar has described the Hindraf rally at the British High Commission as “a safety valve for long smoldering Indian Malaysian grievances.”

Anwar Ibrahim said he had been invited to attend some conferences on democracy in India and that he had only raised genuine grievances faced by minority groups in Malaysia during his current lectures.

"These conferences were planned five months ago, I gave my commitment and I attended," he told Bernama when asked what made him come to India at this time.
"The lectures were about the state of democracy and I gave my honest answers."

This is the famous Hindraf Memorandum to UK Prime Minister.

Dear Sirs,

RE: 1. COMMONWEALTH ETHNIC INDIAN PEACE LOVING SUBJECTS IN MALAYSIA PERSECUTED BY GOVERNMENT BACKED ISLAMIC EXTREMIST VIOLENT ARMED TERRORIST WHO LAUNCHED A PRE DAWN VIOLENT ARMED ATTACK AND DESTROYED THE KG JAWA MARIAMAN HINDU TEMPLE AT 4.00 A.M THIS MORNING (15.11.2007).

2. APPEAL FOR U.K TO MOVE EMERGENCY U.N RESOLUTION CONDEMNING “ETHNIC CLEANSING” IN MALAYSIA.

3. APPEAL TO REFER MALAYSIA TO THE WORLD COURT AND INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT FOR CRIMES AGAINST IT’S OWN ETHNIC MINORITY INDIANS.

We refer to the above critical matters in Malaysia but which generally gets the least attention locally even by the Opposition parties, NGO’s, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and the media for this community is generally regarded as politically insignificant, do not draw local or international funding and are deemed not pressworthy. To the contrary the Malaysian government has successfully projected itself to the world as a modern Islamic thinking country which is not true.

The ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia were brought in to Malaysia by the British some 200 over years ago. Since independence in 1957 the Malaysian Indians have been permanently colonialised by the Islamic fundamentalist and Malay chauvinists UMNO led Malaysian government.

Among the recent atrocities committed by this government are as follows:-

1.100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide. Despite numerous appeals, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission has refused to hold a Public Inquiry. The UMNO controlled Malaysian courts struck off a victim’s public interest civil suit for a Public Inquiry to be held without even the said UMNO controlled government having to file in their defence. The UMNO controlled Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police refused to investigate and / or initiate an inquest into the death of at least six Indians in this tragedy despite.

2. Every week one person at average is killed in a shot to kill policy and in every 2 weeks one person is killed in police custody. About 60% of these victims are Indians though they form only 8% of the Malaysian population.

3. In every three weeks one Hindu temple is demolished in Malaysia.

The latest being the demolishment of the Mariaman temple in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam, Selangor early this morning (15.11.2007) and the next being the (Mutaiya) Hindu temple in Sungai Petani scheduled for the 29.11.2007.

A violent armed pre down attack at 4.00a.m this morning was launched by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government backed by about 600 police, riot police, Islamic extremist and armed terrorists which completely destroyed this temple.

In an attack two weeks ago, uniformed police, riot police and city Council officers hurled rocks and attacked unarmed Hindu devotees with knives, sticks and iron rods.

At least 20 Hindu devotees were seriously injured and 19 arrested including 4 of their United Kingdom trained lawyers in direct violation of Article 5 (Right to life) Article 8 (Equality) Article 11 (Freedom of Religion) Section 295 (defiling a place of worship), Section 296 (disturbing a religious assembly), 298A(causing racial disharmony) and Section 441(criminal trespass) of the Malaysian Penal Code.

These authorities are plagued by an above the law mindset and in fact liberally take the law into their own hands. These atrocities however does not happen to almost all Islamic places of worship. Please visit www.policewatchmalaysia.com for further and better particulars.

4. State sponsored direct discrimination against the Indians in Public University intakes, Indian (Tamil) Schools, skills training institutes, civil service and private sector job opportunities, business and license opportunities and in almost all other aspects of daily life.

Despite our hundreds of letters, appeals and pleas to the Malaysian King and Sultans, the Prime Minister, Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, Ministers, Chief Ministers and the latest being our letters to the Prime Minister dated 29.10.2007 and 30.10.2007 and to the Attorney General dated 1.11.2007 the Malaysian authorities are only proceeding with greater ferocity and with impunity with very little regard for the Federal Constitution and laws of Malaysia. So please help us.

CONCLUSION

We fear that this peace loving Indian community of Tamil origin having been pushed to the corner and the persecution getting worse by the day may be forced to into terrorism in a matter of time as what has happened to the Sri Lankan Tamils.

APPEAL

On our part we are committed to a peaceful and lawful struggle and pray and appeal that the Government of the United Kingdom:-

1. Moves an emergency United Nations resolution condemning these state sponsored atrocities and persecutions of Malaysian Indians in Malaysia.

2. Refers Malaysia to the World Court and the International Criminal Court for Crimes against it’s own ethnic minority Indians

Thank You,

Yours Faithfully

After the rally, a few were detained by police.

Bersih Rally

Coincidentally, another equally important rally took place on the streets in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur on the 10th of November 2007, two weeks before Hindraf Rally. It was seen by many as being far too obvious to be mistaken as coincidence. Some argued further that both rallies were preludes to the General Election of April 2008.

Event organizers of 2007 Rally intended to have a peaceful, non-violent rally, advising participants in the days and weeks beforehand how to keep the rally peaceful. However the rally was marred by government sanctioned police violence. The aim of this walk was to campaign for electoral reform. It was precipitated by allegations of corruption and discrepancies in the Malaysian election system that heavily favor the ruling political party, Barisan Nasional, which has been in power since Malaysia achieved its independence in 1957.

Anwar since 1970's had been involved in street rallies and Bersih rally was nothing new. It was commented by some that, in rallies, people tend to forget about the purpose of the rally, in the heat, enthusiasm and intimedation of the procession. Most will go home feeling angrier. In cunning political atrategy, this is what most politicians want.

Remarks

As a conclusion, now I miss the true meaning of being racist. I am not too sure now, the virtue of playing soft or hard on racial issues in politics. There are far too many people being guilty without being charged. Without doubt there bound to be one or two oppurtunist who emerged as champion while scrambling up the greasy pole of power. Greed and sickening ambitions drive some to racial crazy. As always, ordinary folks will fall as victims in racial disharmony.

Malaysia's Anwar sends envoys to push takeover bid

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Malaysia's embattled prime minister appeared to lose support in the ruling party as opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim ramped up efforts Friday to bring down the government.

Apparently rattled by mounting setbacks, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's administration arrested a prominent anti-government blogger and warned three newspapers their coverage of sensitive issues could cause them to be shut down.

The developments underscored a worsening sense of political insecurity in a country that has long been considered one of Southeast Asia's most stable territories.

Abdullah faces threats from two corners. While Anwar seems poised to seize power through defections from the ruling coalition, Abdullah is also battling demands from dissidents in his own party to resign and to let his deputy, Najib Razak, confront Anwar's challenge.

Abdullah has said he wants to hand power to Najib in mid-2010. But Najib signaled a shift Friday in his support for Abdullah's plan by saying that ruling party officials can decide next month whether to back a faster power transition.

"Because (this) is a party that practices democracy, the matter must be decided by the party members through its internal process," Najib told a news conference.

Najib comments follow an outcry over the past week involving a ruling party politician who described the ethnic Chinese minority as "immigrants" who were power hungry. Abdullah was forced to suspend the official after other parties in his multiracial coalition protested.

Separately Friday, Anwar sent four envoys to Taiwan, where they will likely meet with a group of traveling Malaysian government lawmakers in an apparent bid to finalize defections.

"The scenario is developing very fast," said Tian Chua, an opposition lawmaker participating in the trip. "We are relatively confident that by Sept. 16, we will be able to make a concrete announcement."

Anwar's alliance has said it hopes to hold fresh general elections within a year if it succeeds in its ambition to overthrow Abdullah's ruling National Front coalition next week.

The National Front lost its two-thirds parliamentary majority in March elections. Anwar needs at least 30 government lawmakers on his side to take over.

In signs of tensions, police arrested anti-government blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin under a law allowing indefinite detention without trial. Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Raja Petra's writings pose a threat to national security.

The Home Ministry also sent warning letters to two newspapers and an opposition publication about their coverage of political and racial issues, the Malaysiakini news portal reported. Media outlets operate with a government license that can be suspended at any time.

Dr Mahathir fires a salvo at Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Just a day after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad fired his first salvo at him by claiming the PKR adviser could “convince even the devil to follow him”.

Dr Mahathir predicted that once back in Parliament, Anwar would make “life very difficult” for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Reaching out: Dr Mahathir and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali entertaining a youth group from the Presbyterian Church of seven countries at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya yesterday.

“I don’t think Abdullah is a match for Anwar. He is going to raise all kinds of issues and questions and will demand and pressure the Prime Minister for answers. It is going to be a tough time for Barisan,” he said.

Dr Mahathir, however, felt that Anwar would not get 30 MPs to switch sides to form the government. He said the PKR adviser might think he could “buy” the MPs but it would be impossible for him to “outbid the other bidders who have more money.”

“The Permatang Pauh by-election results is a clear message for Barisan Nasional, Umno and its leaders. Within five months after the March 8 polls, Barisan lost the seat again, with a bigger majority than the last time.

“I believe this will be the trend at other places as well,” he saidwhen met at his office yesterday.

He said Abdullah, his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and other leaders should not close their “ears and eyes” to the people’s message and should not blame the Permatang Pauh defeat on sabotage or other elements.

“If changes are made two years from now, then Umno will face an uphill task to gain strength and the people’s confidence. If they fail to change, then Barisan can expect defeat in the 13th general election,” he said, adding he was willing to come back to the party if Abdullah stepped down before the scheduled handover to Najib in 2010.

He said Umno should be concerned that the party was losing popularity and appeal and even the DAP had become more appealing to the Malays, referring to former Transparency International Malaysia chairman Tunku Aziz Tunku Ibrahim joining the DAP.

News Asia-Pacific Anwar sworn in as Malaysian MP

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia's leading opposition figure, has been formally declared a member of parliament, moving a step closer to achieving his goal of taking over the government.

"I am glad to be back after a decade," said Anwar, who was forced to resign his government and political posts in 1998 amid a sodomy allegation.

"I really feel vindicated. I feel great."

Anwar, 61, read out the oath of office on Thursday morning in the country's lower house of parliament before taking his place as leader of the loose opposition coalition called Pakatan Rakyat (PR), or people's alliance.

On Tuesday Anwar, a member of the opposition Keadilan (justice) party, defeated Arif Shah Omar Shah, the ruling Barisan Nasional's candidate, by a wide margin in the contest for the northern town of Permatang Pauh, the constituency he last held 10 years ago.

On March 8 he led the opposition's general election campaign that saw the alliance win 82 seats, 30 short of a majority that could have seen a change of government since Malaysia gained independence from British rule in 1957.

During Anwar's oath-taking, most of the top cabinet ministers including Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the Malaysian prime minister, and his deputy Najib Abdul Razak, were not present in parliament.

As an MP, Anwar will now be able to attend the tabling of the annual national budget in parliament by Abdullah on Friday.

Anwar, who was a former deputy prime minister and finance minister, has declared his intention to overthrow the government by next month through defections by disaffected MPs, and vowed to be the next prime minister.

'Plan still on'

Abdullah is facing mounting pressure from within and outside his ruling party [EPA]
Confirming that his September "plan is still on", Anwar said: "Clearly the prime minister has lost the mandate of the country."

Anwar's convincing victory on Tuesday in his home state of Penang sparked fresh calls for Abdullah, who also hails from the same state, to resign.

Among the loudest was Mahathir Mohamad, Abdullah's predecessor, said the prime minister "must take responsibility and resign now".

Razaleigh Hamzah, a former MP and veteran politician, said Abdullah had lost "what scraps of credibility [he] had left" following Anwar's victory.

But Abdullah rejected the calls, quoted by Bernama national news agency as saying: "I believe we can still continue the government."

His convincing win comes despite a new charge of sexual misconduct for allegedly sodomising a male aide early this year, which he says are politically-motivated.

Under Malaysian law, sodomy is illegal even if consensual, and a conviction could see Anwar jailed for up to 20 years.

Anwar was charged with sodomy and corruption which led to his sacking from government and political office in 1998.

He was later convicted on both charges and served six years in jail before the sodomy conviction was overturned in 2004, but the conviction for corruption remains.

Anwar has maintained that Mahathir, who was his long-time mentor, had framed him in 1998 to prevent a power struggle.

It was Anwar who chose handsome assistant

AS CAMPAIGNING for Permatang Pauh by-election entered its third day yesterday, the Quran-swearing issue remained a talking point.

The Barisan Nasional camp has come out in support of Mr Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's decision to swear on the Quran. Others on the opposing camp are calling it an unnecessary move that is politically-motivated, even un-Islamic.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was the latest to join the fray when he said that Mr Saiful's actions would convince BN supporters and fence-sitters.

He also called on Mr Anwar to give his DNA and blood samples to prove his innocence against the sodomy charge levelled at him by his former personal aide.

Though he noted these charges are a personal issue between the two, he accused Mr Anwar of manipulating it for sympathy votes, reported The Star. He urged voters: 'Your duty is to elect someone to represent and work for you, not to save Anwar.'

The Edge quoted him as saying that MrAnwar could win an Oscar for his antics over the last few years.

It quoted Mr Najib as saying: 'Everything that he has said, including that there were attempts to kill him, has been without basis or proof. He even invited himself to the Turkish embassy.

'His latest accusation is that the sodomy case against him is a political conspiracy.

'But it was he who chose a personal assistant (Mr Saiful) who was jambu (good looking), not us, it was he who interviewed and hired him, and it was Mr Saiful who accused him, not the BN. What political conspiracy is he talking about?'

Others who have backed Mr Saiful's move of swearing on the Quran include PM Abdullah Badawi and Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein. Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohd outrightly called on Mr Anwar to swear his innocence on the holy book.

Utusan Malaysia quoted religious scholars and religious officials such as the Mufti of Kedah as saying that this was an Islamic move and represented the most serious form of oath. Mr Saiful's father, Mr Alan Mohd Lazim, also called on Mr Anwar to do the same.

Despite these calls, Mr Anwar said he will not do it.

He had earlier called the act a 'mockery of the holy book'. Said Mr Anwar: 'If you respect the law and the dignity of a man, do not use the Quran for political mileage.'

The medical reports, he said, have proven his innocence. Others have denounced the act as un-Islamic.

Said former Indonesia president Abdurrahman Wahid: 'There is no such thing as swearing on the Quran in Islam. Just open the books on Islam.'

He added that it was enough for both Mr Anwar and his accuser to take an oath in the Syariah court.

Meantime, Mr Anwar's accuser has denied that his move was politically-motivated.

Permatang Pauh 4: Seducing in surrender

Beritadarigunung

There are news reports on 40 Government MPs ready to jump ship, the moment Anwar Ibrahim wins the Permatang Pauh by election on August 26. The art of seduction is not only important when you want to attract and conquer your (secret) lover . Seduction is an art that every couple should learn to make love grow. Seduction is also an art to get what you most desire.

Saiful Bukhari Azlan in his short tenure as Anwar's assistant, knew in details about the wooing and seduction by the greatest political lover. The MPs wooed then was not as high as 40, but of course the number could have swelled through the skill and power of local political Don Juan.

Surrender is not about giving up. Its about giving in to persistent persuasion which only great lover will understand.

"What kind of man is this Don Juan Tenorio?", asks Leo Weinstein in his monograph on the Don Juan legend, "Why does he bend all his efforts to deceive women?. . .

Tali penamat untuk Abdullah, Tali pengikat untuk Najib.

Dato Ron, harap sihat selalu.

Kini tiba giliran Abdullah pula.

Terima kasih.

untuk Ruhanie Ahmad, Kuda Kepang.
