BANTING MURDER: Friend of cosmetics queen found dead

Just an update on the 2010 gruesome Banting murder:

GEORGE TOWN: A close friend of cosmetics queen Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya, who is suspected to have been murdered along with three others recently, was found dead in her bedroom in Taman Pauh Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, yesterday.

Sarina Jaafar, 45, the founder of Aveer cosmetics, was found about 8.30am by a relative, who had rushed to her house after receiving a call from her. At the time of the incident, Sarina was alone at home.

It was learnt that prior to the incident, Sarina, who was believed to be under stress, had called her relative to tell her that she was going to hang herself.

As soon as her relative arrived at her home with one of her children, she found Sarina already dead, hanging from the ceiling. She immediately took the body down.

Seberang Prai Tengah district deputy police chief Superintendent Mohan Singh said they received a call from a woman informing them about the incident.

When police arrived at her house, Sarina's body had already been taken down. Her remains were sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

Sarina, who has four children, aged between 16 and 24 from her first marriage, was a successful entrepreneur. She married a second time five years ago.

Meanwhile, Sarina's son Mohd Azrul Affendi Zakaria, 24, who rushed home from Kuala Lumpur, said he was informed of his mother's death by his younger sister.

Azrul, who believed his mother could have been under stress, said she told him recently that she had been hearing voices calling out to her from her father's grave.

"My mother was a loving person and never failed to look after our well-being. I last met her on Friday and advised her to be careful with her business after the recent murders.

"The murder of (Datuk) Sosilawati affected my mother as both were close friends and had known each another for a long time as they were in the same business line."

Azrul, who will be getting married in January, said instead of his wedding dinner, he now has to hold a kenduri for his mother.

Sarina was buried at the Bukit Minyak Muslim cemetery yesterday.
