1. DATUK Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz has refuted claims by Opposition Leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail that her husband had not been invited for the Dewan Rakyat’s opening ceremony.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said Dr Wan Azizah was issued with a card inviting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the official opening.

2. “All MPs were issued with the invitation cards and spouses were invited along. There is no reason for us to deliberately exclude her husband to the ceremony,” he said. here

3. It may be possible that when a Bill is going to be passed, there are more Opposition MPs than backbenchers,” says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

4. "(Minister in the Prime Minister's Department) Datuk Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz still insists on giving IMM13 passes to a large group of illegal immigrants, to feed, house and educate them (illegal immigrants).

"He doesn't even think it fit to respond to BN leaders in Sabah, who strongly voiced their disagreements to the proposal," Jeffry Kitingan said in a statement, Saturday.

6. Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Dr James Masing also expressed his disappointment that two MPs from his party did not submit questions to Parliament, saying that they, too, would be asked to explain.

Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, on the other hand, urged Malaysians to not be too harsh on the MPs, saying that he believed they had not done it on purpose.

Resignation in Malaysia

The Muar division Datuk Kadar Shah Tun Sulaiman Ninam Shah wants Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to resign over the keris issue.

Kampar Umno sends petition asking Tajol Rosli to step down.

Thirteen Ipoh city councillors appointed by the previous Barisan Nasional administration are calling it quits. They comprise eight councillors from Umno, three from the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and two from MIC. The 13 were the last to announce their resignations after nine MCA and Gerakan councillors earlier submitted their resignation letters.

The UMNO division of Batu Pahat, a district in Johor state, at a meeting Saturday urged Abdullah to resign before December over the ruling coalition's dismal election performance.

Kelantan Umno Liaison head Datuk Seri Annuar Musa is ready to relinquish his party post if the top Umno leadership feels that his services are no longer required. He said he felt responsible for the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) defeat in Kelantan in the March 8 general election and he would readily step down as the State Umno Liaison head if he were asked to do so.

All 1,938 members of the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) as well as members of the District, Municipal and City Councils from Umno have been asked to resign effective yesterday following the defeat of the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state in the March 8 general election. Kedah Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the decision was reached at a meeting of the Liaison Body chaired by him at the Kedah Umno headquarters last night.

Datuk Lee Kah Choon had resigned as Gerakan deputy secretary-general and remained an ordinary member, believing that this would be more acceptable to his party.

Stop quarrel over temple demolition: Badawi

Kuala Lumpur, April 30 (IANS) Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has asked two of his senior colleagues to stop a verbal duel in public over demolition of a Hindu temple last year, an issue that upset the ethnic Indian community here. Threatening disciplinary action, Badawi said a directive would be issued to ensure all component parties of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) and individual members stop pointing fingers at one another.

Asked whether his warning would restrict freedom among the component parties, Abdullah retorted: “We have discipline in the party. Which party does not have discipline? It will be a problem if the party does not have discipline,” The Star newspaper said.

The controversy surrounds demolition of the Kampung Rimba Jaya Hindu temple near Shah Alam in Selangor state Nov 15 last year, a week before Deepavali.

Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) President S. Samy Vellu said the demolition so close to the festival acted as the “atom bomb” during last month’s general elections, when disenchanted Tamil Hindus voted for the opposition.

Vellu, who himself lost his ninth bid to enter Parliament, blamed Selangor’s then Mentri Besar (Chief Minister) Mohamad Khir Toyo for not heeding his entreaties made in the presence of Badawi. click here: Thaindian.com, Thailand

Malaysia opens new parliament sitting amid chaos

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysia's new parliament descended into chaos on Wednesday as a revitalised opposition disrupted proceedings amid noisy name-calling and insults.

The pandemonium sparked concerns that Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, already under pressure to quit after the March 8 general elections, could struggle to push through legislation.

"We have had the most cantankerous session in three decades," Foreign Minister Rais Yatim, a lawmaker for the past 25 years, told reporters.

The chaotic scenes were broadcast live on state television, prompting the information minister to reconsider the decision because he said the MPs were "playing to the gallery".... Here: Reuter India

Calls for Malaysian Prime Minister to resign

Following the Malaysian Opposition's unprecedented election gain there are calls by many within the ruling UMNO party, for Abdullah Badawi to resign as Prime Minister.

The UMNO has never had a setback quite like this and nothing in its past in its way of doing business has prepared it for this situation or to be able to handle it. So the immediate response was first of all to blame everybody but themselves, but then internally and instead of looking at the deep sources of their own failure, it becomes personalised, it's subject to factional strife.

But everybody turns on the man responsible, the old saying when the fish stinks, it stinks from the head; well they've decided that they're going to go after, that getting rid of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi as president of the party and as prime minister is the answer to their problems. Now, they may have to do something very new but they'll have to do something more than simply change the captain on the Titanic as they say.

Singapore, Malaysia Will Accept Any Decision On Pulau Batu Putih By ICJ - George Yeo

By Zakaria Abdul Wahab

SINGAPORE, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Singapore will accept whatever decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague on Pulau Batu Putih in the Johor Straits which has been a long standing and thorny issue in the diplomatic relations between the two close neighbours.

"Whatever is the decision, we will accept it," Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo and his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Thursday.

"We both agreed that if Malaysia were to win, Singapore would congratulate Malaysia, and if Singapore were to win, Malaysia would congratulate Singapore," Yeo told a media conference after Rais called on him at his office.

Rais, who is on an introductory visit to Singapore since his appointment as the new Foreign Minister, earlier met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana.

Yeo said the judgment on Pedra Banca (as Singaporeans call Pulau Batu Putih) would likely be made by the ICJ in the middle or end of next month and the outcome would not affect bilateral relations of the two countries.

"Nothing should change," Yeo said, adding that this was the common position that both countries agreed to take and declare it to all Malaysians and Singaporeans.

Security is a problem for every country and every region, whether the security is seriously threatened or not depends largely on the perceptions and foreign policies of the countries involved.

The United States for example believes that its borders with Canada are secure, however to a certain extent its borders with Mexico are considered to be less secure.

Naik kuda ni bukan calang-calang skill. Anwar dulu cuba-cuba jugak naik kuda, kemudian jatuh, terseliuh dan kena pakai brace leher warna putih. Itu masa dalam kabinet. Masa keluar penjara pun dia pakai brace dan duduk atas kerusi roda. Sebabnya ialah Anwar lemah!

Bekas Menteri Sukan tak pernah naik kuda kah?

Nganga mulut luas-luas bukan bermaksud tinggi semangat juangnya..

exit plan

Blogger Berita dari gunung said...

Dato Ron,

Dulu, Anwar Ibrahim cuba buat begitu.

Faktur Khairy, KJ

Blogger Berita dari gunung said...

Kalau faktur KJ adalah persepsi semata-mata tanpa bukti, amat malang sekali. Apapun faktur KJ bukan sebutan orang politik sahaja, orang kampung pun tahu tentang faktur KJ.

Padang Rengas pun bukan menang kesemuanya. UMNO kini nyawa-nyawa ikan.

UMNO: kembali

Blogger Berita dari gunung said...

Isu Pengganti Abdullah Badawi: Najib?

Blogger Berita dari gunung said...

Kini Najib berjawatan Timbalan Perdana Menteri.

A real gentleman. A real statesman.

Kita sekadar mampu meneka-neka saja.

Terima kasih

UMNO Tidak Ke Mana Dengan Mat Taib

"Sebenarnya portal sama seperti surat layang.

Kemudian dia sendiri kata dia ok sahaja. Apa kejadah Pak Lah nak cakap sebenarnya? Pak Lah ni Pengerusi BN ker Pengerusi Pakatan Rakat?

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said that it was up to Gerakan to take any action against the party’s former deputy secretary-general Lee Kah Choon who accepted directorship of the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) and InvestPenang.

“It is for the party to decide. It is up to Penang BN to do what they want. For me, it’s ok as long as there is no clash in policy,” he said in a brief press conference after attending a function in Kuala Lumpur today.

“Perhaps this opens ways for cooperation (between BN and Pakatan Rakyat),” he added.

Abdullah was commenting on Lee’s decision to take up the offer by the Pakatan-led government in Penang to helm the two important investment development agencies of the state government.

Yesterday Gerakan’s acting president Dr Koh Tsu Koon, the former Penang CM, said that the party’s central committee would convene this Sunday to discuss Lee’s move.

Lee resigned from all party posts after its humiliating defeat in Penang on the March 8 general election.

Salleh Abbas, the court and the palace

"I therefore called upon Tun Salleh to openly explain the contents of the First Letter which he wrote to the Agong and the reasons for keeping silent all these years. Additionally, Tun Salleh must disclose whether he had disclosed and explained to his fellow judges about this letter to the Agong and the reaction of the Agong to his insolent letter.

The truth must come out.

Tun Salleh has demanded accountability and transparency. I now demand accountability and transparency from Tun Salleh.

I also demand from Pak Lah, Zaid Ibrahim, the Joker and Ambiga, the Lady-in-Waiting whether they were aware of this letter which Tun Salleh wrote to the Agong."

Rushed transition could result in Umno factions, warns Najib

22-04-2008: Rushed transition could result in Umno factions, warns Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno leadership handover must be a careful and smooth process, as a rushed transition could result in factions within the party, said the party’s deputy president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Najib said Umno must be given the time to strengthen itself, as decisions taken rashly could result in two or even three factions within the party.

Asked if there were factions now within the party, Najib said: “I am not saying that there are factions now. If there was a struggle for the leadership, there would be factions within the party. It happened in 1987 and during the crisis with (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim.”

He added that Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) had been weakened after the recent general election. “If we do it at this time, it might create factions and this could create problems for Umno and the BN government,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Commenting on the latest attack by former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that Najib was not “brave enough” to directly say anything that was not liked by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, he said:

“It is not a question of being a ‘yes’ man or not being brave. I hold the principle that the best method is by way of a smooth handover or transition of power as this would ensure the party is not affected,” he said.

“If we look at history, we have always had a precedent of (a) proper handover right from the time of Tunku (Abdul Rahman) to Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn to Tun Mahathir, then Tun Mahathir to Datuk Seri Abdullah (Ahmad Badawi). Let’s give it a chance to be done in a proper manner,” he said.

Mahathir was reported as saying that Najib should explain the real reasons for Barisan’s losses in the general election, and that he was not confident about the latter taking over as prime minister.

“We see that he (Najib) is a coward. He is always saying, ‘Yes sir, yes sir, I support, I support,’” Mahathir was quoted as saying.

The former prime minister said it depended upon Umno to appoint the person to be prime minister and that Najib would have to face competition from others such as Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Rais Yatim.

Mahathir was also quoted as saying that if Abdullah were to step down now, it would pave the way for a smooth transition, as Najib would succeed him in accordance with Umno tradition.

Najib was speaking to reporters after witnessing a ceremony yesterday in which the Ministry of Defence signed contracts, and awarded letters of acceptance and intent to several local companies worth a total of RM1.13 billion.

To a separate question on former Gerakan deputy secretary-general Datuk Lee Kah Choon’s appointment as director of Invest-Penang and Penang Development Corporation, Najib said in principle, the BN did not encourage its members to work with the opposition.

“We want to see what is the stand of the party,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the defence contracts signed by the government, Najib clarified that the agreements were not to buy new systems or equipment but extensions of existing contracts.

He also stressed that the contracts involving Malaysian companies were part of an effort to encourage greater local participation, citing the example of DRB-Hicom Bhd unit DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd assembling armoured vehicles at its dedicated plant in Pekan, Pahang.

“This ensures that a substantial amount from the contracts goes to local companies as well as creating jobs for Malaysians,” he said. 22-04-2008: Rushed transition could result in Umno factions, warns Najib

BERITADARIGUNUNG:

Grand Ballroom, JW Marriot Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

Special dinner hosted by the Malaysian Bar Council and sponsored by the Malaysian Government. Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi delivered a special address entitled “Delivering Justice, Renewing Trust“.

UPDATES: FROM ROCKY BRU

"We were NOT invited," say Judges.
It hit me while the PM was reading out his speech on renewing trust in the judiciary last Thursday: Where were the Judges?

Only two of the "Big Four" were there, both at the main table - the CJ and the President of the Courts of Appeal.

500 or more guests in the hall - including KJ and 4th Floor boy Zaki - and none of our judges were there.

How come?

I learnt over the weekend that the judges were NOT invited to the dinner hosted by the Bar Council and paid for by the Government.

The Judges are furious. They were only told about the proposed Commission the week before the dinner, towards the end of the Conference of Judges in KL.

"Zaid Ibrahim, the de facto Law Minister, attended our Conference. You'd think he would have the courtesy of telling us Judges about the JAC and the dinner," one Judge told me.

Another Judge wondered about "hidden agenda".

"We were told it'd be an 11-member Commission based on a 4:5:2 composition: the big four judges, five from the Bar Council, and two others.

"Five from the Bar? And they didn't think Judges should be consulted on the proposed reforms of the Judiciary or the formation of the Comission? What's happening here?"

Zaid will have some explaining to do. If not, the PM could well be on the way to creating a new crisis in the judiciary instead of renewing the trust in the system.
