80-year-old accused in child sodomy case

An 80-year-old Columbia man is charged with first-degree statutory sodomy after allegedly fondling a 6-year-old girl last month.

Desilva

Everist C. Desilva, 80, of 2808 Jacobs Place, Apt. 4C, was arrested Aug. 4 by Columbia police. He was released from the Boone County Jail after posting a $50,000 bond.

According to a probable cause statement prepared by Columbia police Detective John Short, Desilva is accused of abusing the 6-year-old girl on July 30 at a residence on Calder Court while the girl was in Desilva’s care. She told her mother the next day that Desilva had touched her sexually and exposed himself to her, the court document said.

Desilva waived formal arraignment in court last week. He has a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 4.
