Nik Aziz defends son-in-law appointment

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has denied any nepotism over the appointment of his son-in-law as Kelantan Menteri Besar Corporation chief executive officer (CEO).

He said Ariff Fahmi Abdul Rahman, who took over from the previous CEO, was highly qualified with vast engineering experience.

“I appointed him not because he is my son-in-law, but because he is qualified for the job,” he told reporters after opening the third International Muslim Business Network Forum here today.

Nik Aziz said he had explained to the state legislative assembly the reasons why he had appointed Ariff Fahmi to the post.

Several Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officers were reported to have visited the corporation office to scrutinise some documents.

Nik Aziz said he was willing to fully cooperate with the ACA on any investigation into the appointment.
