PUTRAJAYA, Fri: Newly appointed Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said today met Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi at the latter’s residence in Kuala Lumpur. Ahmad met the Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president for about 30 minutes after Friday prayers. It is believed the meeting was related to Umno supreme council’s decision on Thursday to accept Ahmad as the menteri besar.

An aide contacted later said Ahmad returned to Kuala Terengganu after his meeting the Prime Minister. The state had been without a state government since the March 8 general election.

It is also believed that Ahmad discussed the Exco list with Abdullah. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be held on Sunday at Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu, followed by the first Exco meeting on Wednesday.

Abdullah, after chairing the supreme council meeting, had expressed confidence that the 22 Terengganu state assemblymen who had backed former menteri besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, would accept the decision to support Ahmad.

In another development, about 10 BN component party leaders from Sabah are expected to meet Abdullah at his official residence, Sri Perdana, about 10am today.
They are expected to raise the issue of the resignation of Datuk Ghapur Salleh, who is Tawau Umno liaison chief, as deputy natural resources and environment minister.

BN component parties in Sabah had expressed disappointment in the level of their representation in the federal administration.
