Umno presidency: It is Razaleigh's right to offer himself, says Khaled

JOHOR BARU, Sat:

Gua Musang Member of Parliament (MP) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has the right to offer himself for the post of Umno president and Umno members have the right to reject the offer, Higher Education Minister Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said here.

“That is his (Tengku Razaleigh’s) right. If the Umno members do not support him, that is also their right,” the Johor Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman told reporters after attending a meeting with branch chairmen of the Pasir Gudang Umno Division here yesterday.

Mohamed Khaled said it would be preferrable for Umno members to focus on efforts to revolve any domestic problems in the party.

“I feel it is better for us to remain united and face the problems together,” he said when commenting on an announcement by Tengku Razaleigh to challenge Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the Umno presidency at the party elections later this year. — BERNAMA
