23-09-2008: Abdullah denies in contact with Pakatan

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has denied that contacts have been made with representatives from Pakatan Rakyat to discuss a transition of power.

“That is the craziest report that I (have) ever heard," he told reporters. "You should think first before you make such a report."

Abdullah was asked about a newswire report quoting Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Information Chief Tian Chua as saying that contact has been made between the two sides via an unnamed third party.

“We managed to break through in some discussions through a third party and soon a direct negotiation will happen between Abdullah and Anwar,” Tian Chua was quoted as saying.

To a question that the 2010 power transition plan between him and Datuk Seri Najib Razak was not fool-proof as it still hinged on the nomination from Umno divisions, Abdullah said: “We are not on the subject. So please don’t ask the question.”

He spoke to reporters after chairing a meeting of the government's economic council.
