Alor Gajah Umno: Three extra ballots, so results deferred

Results of the Alor Gajah Umno divisional polls were deferred following the discovery of three extra ballot papers for the division chief’s post.

A tie for the Puteri’s top post would also be referred to the Umno state monitoring committee headed by state deputy chairman Datuk Wira Abu Seman.

The committee is expected to announce its decisions on Tuesday, said state Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam after visiting the RM50mil Eye on Malaysia project on Monday.

Results for the Alor Gajah Umno division chairman’s contest between Datuk Abdul Ghafar Atan and Datuk Kadir Daud were deferred at about 11.45pm after it was discovered there were 398 ballots instead 395.

Abdul Ghafar, the division deputy chief and Gadek assemblyman faced off with Kadir, the vice chief and former Durian Tunggal state assemblyman.

For the Puteri top post, Raziah Abdul Rahman and Rosilawati Khalil received 79 votes each. Efforts to reach a settlement failed and a decision was made to refer to the matter to the monitoring committee at 3am.
